Shiraz graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked in the telecommunication software industry for 5 years and then did a Masters degree in telecommunications at the University of Melbourne. He then spent a year with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and joined ARL in 2004. His primary research interests include Underwater Acoustic Communications/Networking and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles.
