Underwater vehicles and maritime robotics are vital to port & harbour security, naval and scientific exploration, underwater cleaning etc. This fun-filled and challenging design competition aims to introduce students into this fascinating world. The competition involves building underwater vehicles or underwater robots. Such a competition will spur interest and promote education in this area and motivate young and aspiring engineers and scientists to further pursue this field. This inaugural competition will be held as part of the prestigious Oceans'06 International Conference in Singapore. In subsequent years, it could be held independently by a sponsoring organization. The aim is to convert this into an annual international events in Singapore or the South Asian region. The current idea is a Micro-AUV competition. There are many large- AUV competitions held in open waters or large pools. This competition is designed to be held in a special small tank and requires small ROV/AUV's that can achieve a specific task. This also helps make integration into venues like Oceans'06 conference, SRG, NJRC easier and the overall logistics simpler. |
